Everyone hits. Pick the team’s best ball. Everyone plays their next shot from that spot. Repeat until the ball is holed; record one team score.
Drive quotas: hole one is Nick’s shared drive and counts for nobody. For four-player teams on holes 2–9, the bottom two players supply two chosen drives each; the top two supply one each. Two holes remain free choice. Team 3 has five players; confirm its drive quotas and bonus rules with the organiser before tee-off.
Bonuses: subtract one stroke when the nominated weakest player holes the putt, and one when all four players’ balls reach the green in regulation (par minus two shots). Once each per hole; they can stack. Enter gross strokes first—the site subtracts bonuses.
Fair scoring: the nominated bonus player is fixed before play. Shortfalls in drive quotas are flagged for organiser review, not silently assigned a penalty. Final positions use adjusted strokes, with ties sharing a place. No handicap deduction is applied.
Nick hits first, without a warm-up. The runner marks the starting spot and shares a landmark photo. Every team starts from that spot. No drive-quota credit for anyone, including Nick. Nick plays in the last group. If his ball is out of bounds, use the replacement drive and count the same penalty for every team.
Normal Ambrose. Start tracking your chosen drives: two each for the bottom two players, one each for the top two, across holes 2–9.
The runner has a surprise drinks stop before the tee shot. Your choice of drink, including alcohol-free, or pass. Skip the stop if the field is bunching.
Normal Ambrose. Check your team’s drive quotas before choosing the ball.
The runner hands each player a random suitable club for their tee shot. Use a club with the correct handedness. The chosen tee shot still counts towards that player’s drive quota.
Nominate a teammate to narrate your shots in a hushed sports-commentator voice. Rotate if they crack. Keep it quiet around other groups.
The runner returns with another optional drinks stop. Keep the field moving and check who still owes a drive.
Normal Ambrose. Radio ahead to get the ninth-hole reception ready. Two holes left to finish your drive quotas.
Finish the remaining drive quotas, save the final score and join the reception. Wait for Nick’s group, then toast and present the medals.
